Happy Sunday!

We are approaching the end of August already! Here is what you need to know for this week!

Week 3: August 26-30, 2024

Wednesday August 28 - BAND HANDBOOK ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORMS DUE

Friday August 30 - Teacher Professional Development Day NO SCHOOL

Forms

Please make sure that both a parent and student sign the Band Handbook Acknowledgement form and have it turned into the teal bin in the band room by THIS WEDNESDAY! I received a lot of forms that did not have a student signature so I have no idea who it belongs to. I am still also missing INSTRUMENT RENTAL FORMS! If you are planning on using a school instrument I need you to turn this in.

Required Materials

I have a lot of students still who are not showing up to class with the required materials. Students should have the following:

  1. 1/2 - 1 Inch Binder

  2. Pencils

  3. Notebook Paper

  4. Binder Sheet Protectors

  5. Instrument (When Assigned)

  6. Supplies for Instrument

If there is an issue in getting these materials, please email me at pyburns@lake.k12.fl.us so that I can help in any way I can.

Beginning this week, students will be assessed on three different Music Benchmarks:

MU.68.C.2: Assessing our own and others’ artistic work, using critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, is central to artistic growth.

MU.68.S.2: Development of skills, techniques, and processes in the arts strengthens our ability to remember, focus on, process, and sequence information.

MU.68.S.3: Through purposeful practice, artists learn to manage, master, and refine simple, then complex, skills and techniques.

In order for students to be successful in these benchmarks, instrument and music are expected for class daily. Students' music should be kept in a band binder so it does not get lost.

Beginning Band

We are so close to getting all students assigned an instrument! I will be continuing to have instrument fittings in class this week. I only have time test students on flute, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone/baritone in class. If your student would like to play saxophone, French horn, or tuba, they must meet with me either before school or after school. Please email me beforehand so that I can plan accordingly!

As always, please check the band calendar on our website, subscribe to the band website, and join the BAND App!
