Solo & Ensemble 1 Debrief
Awesome job to all the students that came and performed at Solo & Ensemble this weekend! A special congratulations to Makayla & Yuritzi (Saxophone Duet), Makenna (Mallet Solo), and Emmanuel (Trumpet Solo) for receiving a superior rating! This is the highest score that can be received at Solo & Ensemble! I am looking forward to the performances at Solo & Ensemble 2 in April!
After School Rehearsals
The Weekly Schedule is the following:
Mondays (Jan 13 - Feb 10): Jazz Band 4:15 - 5:30 PM
Wednesdays (Jan 15 - Feb 26): Symphonic Band 3:15 - 4:30 PM
THESE REHEARSALS ARE A GRADE!!!!
Rehearsals after school are essential for these next couple of weeks. Students will be performing at the Music Performance Assessment (MPA) next month, which is one of our biggest performances of the school year. It is the music equivalent of a general education class's state test.
If a student needs to miss a rehearsal, they must talk to me, and I must have parent contact. This is so that there is adult communication on the situation. Yes, there are make-up assignments, however, without your student, the whole band falls behind and can lose progress. So, it is important to have all students there.
Students will have to record a section of their music that we worked on in the rehearsal if they need to make up the rehearsal. Please see this on Google Classroom.
Jazz Music Performance Assessment
ATTENTION JAZZ BAND STUDENTS! Jazz MPA is THIS THURSDAY! Notice the itinerary has since changed due to busing and performance schedule changes. I will also be sending this out in an email tomorrow. MAKE SURE YOU TURN IN YOUR FIELD TRIP FORMS OTHERWISE YOU CANNOT GO...AND IT IS A GRADE!

Jazz Uniform: Black UMS Dress Shirt (collar shirt), Black Dress Pants/Maxi Skirt, Black Dress Socks and Black Dress Shoes.
Please Bring: Music, Instrument, Reeds/Mallets/Amps/Cords/Valve Oil, Proper Uniform, Money for Concessions - lunch, dinner, and snacks
Jazz MPA Schedule
7:45 AM – Arrive in Band room/Load equipment
8:20 AM – Depart from Umatilla MS with Umatilla HS
8:50 AM – Arrive at Mount Dora HS
8:55 AM – Unload Equipment
9:15 AM – Scheduled Warm-up Time
10:00 AM – Performance by the UMS Tiger Jazz Band
10:30 AM – Pack Up Instruments
10:45 AM – Enter Auditorium to watch bands/Restroom Break
12:45 PM – Lunch at Mount Dora HS, bring a lunch or buy concessions
1:40 PM – Enter Auditorium to watch remaining bands/Restroom Break
2:15 PM – Performance by the Swingin’ Bulldog Jazz Band
6:45 PM – Load equipment and instruments on bus
7:00 PM – Depart from Mount Dora HS
7:15 PM – Dinner at Chick-fil-A, bring money for dinner
8:30 PM – Picked-Up from the Umatilla High School Band Room
If you are interested in picking up your child early. Please email me directly so that I can give you the information from the front office. You can only use this method to pick up your child.
Student Behavior Expectations
Students are representing Umatilla Middle School while at this event. There will be other middle schools, high schools, and professional musicians here. Students are expected to be respectful to all adults, and other schools that are performing. Students MAY NOT talk or be on their phone in the auditorium, or during their performance. Doing so will result in a consequence, which may include a behavior referral.
