ABOUT THE UMATILLA MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND
A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE
To be involved with the band program at UMS is to be part of a recognized tradition of excellence. Since the school’s foundation in the late 70’s, the soloists and various bands at Umatilla Middle School have consistently received Excellent and Superior ratings at Music Performance Assessments, performed to enthusiastic audiences both at school and throughout the community, and traveled the district to share their music.
This year we will build on this tradition and strive to take the band program to new heights of artistic and personal achievement. Through the extraordinary hard work and dedication of all student musicians, fantastic student leaders, an active Parent Booster Organization, increased community support, and outstanding faculty, the Umatilla Middle School Band Program is ready to set the standard for middle school band programs in the state of Florida!
MEET YOUR DIRECTOR
Mrs. Lindsey Crouch has been the director of bands at Umatilla Middle School since 2013. She earned her bachelor's degree in Music Education from Florida Southern College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Her primary instrument is the flute, and she studeied under the principal flutist of the Orlando Philharmonic. Mrs. Crouch is an active member of the Florida Music Educators Association and the Florida Bandmasters Association, where she currently serves as District Treasurer. Mrs. Crouch was a reciepient of the UMS Rookie Teacher of the Year and a runner up for Lake County's Rookie Teacher of the Year in 2014. In 2018, Mrs. Crouch became a recipient of the FBA's state level Tom Bishop Award.
In her free time, Mrs. Crouch enjoys reading (especially Harry Potter), fostering kittens, and eating Hershey's chocolate. She has been happily married since 2015; Mr. Crouch is a history teacher with FLVS and he plays the trombone and bass guitar. Mr. and Mrs. Crouch live at home with their 2 cats and 2 dogs. They have two young sons who are excited to be future band members!
